30 Years of Supporting Irish

sarahmaherspaceblogYou can’t miss the price war that has erupted between retailers – it seems to be all about price and for some… shelves of tinned steak and kidney pies. Our client, SuperValu sees it differently. Yes, they are doing low prices and great value, but  they are also continuing to support Irish producers and jobs in these very difficult economic circumstances. It’s not one or the other.

So if your choice of retailer is also influenced by their ‘Irish’ credentials, then you will be interested to read this next blog from our client Des O’Mahony in SuperValu:

Here at SuperValu we are celebrating our 30th birthday this year – so a big happy birthday to one of Irelands leading brands. Loads of important stuff happened in 1979 like the invention of the Sony Walkman, Trivial Pursuit and Superman – The Movie… oh and of course SuperValu was born too.

Like all of these ground breaking inventions I am proud to say that SuperValu has gone from strength to strength since 1979 and we now have an amazing 194 stores across Ireland. Ok so maybe we are not as big as Sony but watch this space!  Like other ground breaking and successful brands we have kept our foundations solid. We were created as a 100% Irish brand operated by local store owners who were passionate about the communities they lived in… and guess what, we still are. Only now we are a little bit bigger having moved from 20 stores to 194!

For us being Irish and supporting Irish products and suppliers part of our DNA and not just a byline in our advertising. I love my statistics and just to prove a point about our love of our emerald isle here are a few pointers that will give you a sense of just how big that commitment is:

  • 75% of everything we sell is either sourced or produced in Ireland – no mean feat but a fantastic fact!
  • 100% of all SuperValu branded beef, pork, lamb and chicken is Irish – the best of meat served by our expert butchers.
  • The brand and its stores are responsible for 14,000 direct Irish jobs along with another 10,000 indirect supplier jobs – yes that is a hugely impressive figure!
  • We are 30 years old as an Irish brand – I already told you that but just in case you missed it Im very proud!

So you can see we have all things Irish at our core and will continue to have. Supporting Ireland Inc right now has never been more important – we are doing our bit (a very substantial bit) and hope you all do the same.
