McCann wins Silver at ICAD

A big congratulations to Dave and Ross on winning a Silver Bell for Directski.com at the ICAD awards on Thursday night.

It was such a simple idea. A vinyl sticker designed in the shape of a snowboard was placed on the Luas floor.

Then passengers were encouraged to place their feet on it, let go of the hand rails and ‘snowboard’ the Luas.

A big congratulations to Dave and Ross who came second in The Irish Times ‘Best Yet’ competition.

The competition was open to all Creative teams with less than four years experience in the industry. The top 25 teams were briefed early on a Friday morning in The Irish Times office to come up with an inventive press campaign for Miller beer. Each team then had to present their ideas that afternoon.

The top two teams are now heading off to represent Ireland in a European competition in Croatia in a few weeks time. Which means the hopes and dreams of the entire nation now lie with Dave and Ross … (and the other team of course). No pressure guys.

We won a Vinegar at the Chip Shop Awards

jonny-pittard-blogwhiteThe Chip Shop Awards was set-up to reward spec and unsanctioned ideas. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and makes fun of D&AD, but it does have proper international judges and there are some serious catagories among the daft ones like ‘Best politically incorrect’. They like to refer to the spec or scam ads as ‘Creativity with no limits’.

I’m sure it will continue to grow at a tremendous rate and become more and more recognised as the other major awards clamp down on unsanctioned work. We were nominated in the ambient category for our idea for Eurosport HD. The idea is to turn a soccer pitch into a giant TV, complete with Eurosport HD logo to dramatize the quality of HD sports footage.

As the ad hasn’t yet been made we’d happily progress it for any TV manufacturer or sports channel that was interested.

The bells… the bells…

McCanns had a great night last night at the ICAD awards. We picked up three Bells in total. Congratulations to Jonny Cullan & Rory Hamilton who picked up a Silver in the ambient section for a lovely idea they did last year for Smiles Dental Clinic.

The same duo also picked up a bronze for their brilliant Heineken Cup ‘Field of Dreams’ commercial from 2009.

And congrats too to Ray Swan and Emma Sharkey who picked up a bronze in the special effects section for their powerful CervicalCheck ‘Changes’ commercial.

Gold, silver, bronze…

It was a great weekend for McCanns at the Kinsale Advertisng Awards. We picked up three Sharks in total. Our tv commercial for ‘CervicalCheck’ won a Silver Shark in the Irish tv section and went one better when it won a Gold Shark for post production in the International Craft section. A big thanks to the guys in Finish in London for their work there. We also picked up a Bronze Shark in the Irish Ambient section for our work for ‘Smiles’, the dental clinic people.
