Irish Cancer Society Daffodil Centres sprouting nation-wide…

There will be 30,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed next year in Ireland and 1 in 3 people in Ireland will be affected in some way by the disease.

We attended the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Centre’s launch yesterday morning in the Conrad Hotel and were really impressed with the work that the Society have accomplished with their current group of 6 Daffodil Centres. Mr. Bill McCabe (Chairman) told the group that the Society’s hope is to add 7 more centres nation-wide and continue to provide a unique way of bringing Cancer Information Services to hospitals, where advice and support can reach people in times of great need.

We commend the team on their work and wish them the best with the fund-raising in the months to come. And of course, if you’d like to donate call 1850 60 60 60.

What is going on with the over 50’s?

orlaith-blaney1We were delighted to have the opportunity at the Business of Ageing to respond to Gerard O’Neill of Amarach’s first sharing of a piece of research dedicated to understanding this audience. The bottom line is, the stuff the over 50’s want, we all want.

They want value for money, simple and clear communication that is really relevant to them. So, no real surprises. We outlined the big business opportunities with just 42% of them texting and 80% having a mobile phone, it feels like the mobile networks need to take note. 57% say they never go to the cinema. Is it that the product doesn’t appeal to them, or they think it is too expensive, or as one woman told me, I can’t really hear properly.…

whatever the reason, the cinemas need to take note.

We shared the latest ad for Bowel Cancer from Irish Cancer Society as one way to deal with communication of serious health issues. Podge and Rodge, crudely and in their own inimitable style share the symptoms of the ‘’cowels’’ and in one reference, talk about strawberries on your éclairs. Some of the audience at the conference found it distasteful and un-necessarily crude and told me so. This viral gets the symptoms on our agenda and reaches a wider audience of younger people who all have parents who might suffer. 94,000 You tube views so far. Take a look.
